Super Mouse!

It seems we have a mouse.

A friend has been staying at our house and he gave us the unfortunate news that he saw what could have been a mouse run under the dryer. He also thought he heard it in the dropped ceiling in the basement.

Further investigation indicated evidence of mouse activity (i.e., turds).

So I bought a fancy mouse trap that was to instantly electrocute the mouse - a humane kill. I set it, and baited it with peanut butter (apparently they love peanut butter). Checked it in a couple days - the peanut butter was gone, and there was no mouse. Either the machine didn't work, or the mouse walked on the sides of the trap.

I then bought a live trap, one that had a door that would shut when the mouse entered. As a matter of fact, I bought two. Set both, baited with peanut butter. If I caught the mouse, I'd have to 'dispose' of it myself. Checked them the next day - both we're in the closed position, the peanut butter gone, and you guessed it, no mouse.

So I went and bought some glue traps. They smell like peanut butter. And I also re-set the live traps. This morning I checked all the traps. No mouse, and one of the live traps had moved about two feet. Oh, and the room is closed, so that cat did not play with the mouse trap.

And the peanut butter was gone.

When we questioned her, the cat said she had retired.

I think tonight I'll go buy some of the old fashioned mouse traps that snap and kill the mouse. Let's see if it can evade that! Besides, based on the skill set of this mouse (or team of mice), I don't want to be left with the task of 'disposing' of a live mouse. It may evade me.

Snap and kill seems to be most effective in my experience of watching others use it.

The poison works, but slowly, and it's pretty awful.

Maybe you have a cartoon-type mouse. If so, be careful. They can really mess with your cat's head, if I remember correctly. :)

I bought two snap traps and loaded them with peanut butter. If they eat the peanut butter and escape from these, well, we may just have to move out..........

No mouse yet today, but traps are in tact and no peanut butter is missing. Perhaps the hunting will be better when it rains.

We have never had mouse trouble in THIS house, however we have two young cats claws intact so I don't assume any mouse would dare come close.

Snap and kill are the best I think. They snap down so fast its an instant kill. It's a lot more humaine than if the cat gets em I'll ya what!

I agree with Patti, the poison is just slow and painful.

A home remidy that works(albit a lil smelly) is to move the litter box into the room the mouse habitates in. the smell of the cat urine can frighten the mouse away.

Who knows, might work?

So, I set two snap traps, both baited with peanut butter. This morning I checked them - one has the peanut butter in tact, and the other does not. I think the mouse can hover.

I've now taken the one trap with the peanut butter and placed it between two glue traps, with one of the glue traps on an angle so the mouse will have to enter through a glue trap.

I also purchased electronic devives that are supposed to repel mice and rats. I'd like to catch this one first before I activate them.

Fingers crossed.

Wow, this REALLY does seem like super mouse!

the snap traps are not working. I've now put a little peanut butter on the inside top of the glue trap. MacGyver Mouse will need to hover on its back inside the glue trap, or dismantle the glue trap, or flip it over and tip toe to the center in order to get to the peanut butter wihout getting stuck.

I've also put a big glob of peanut butter inside a pail that is two feet high, and have a broom stick going from the floor up to the top of the pail. If MacGyer gets in, he will have a challenge getting out.

If the peanut butter is gone from these contraptions and I don't catch a mouse, I'm going to invest in some night vision cameras to video the mouse & learn his evasive moves.

I caught it! In the home-made trap. We exchange a few words, I shared my respect, then 'disposed' of him. It was a moment.

We've seen three mice here, which I suppose isn't too bad. (only when the seasons change). I can handle that.

Until I'm doing someone's hair the other day and Bucky Katt decides to pick up what looks to be a dirty, squirming toy and drop it in their SHOE. eeeeek.

So I picked the mouse up, tossed him outside, and apologized.. thankfully, they were OK with it.
