Holy Cow it's cold!

Man it's cold outside.  There was a time when I liked being outside in the cold, but that was decades ago.  As a kid in Newfoundland cold weather meant snowmobiling, tobogganing, digging snow tunnels, skating on 'the bay' or playing road hockey.

Christmas was different then as well.  Christmas rocked for me as a kid (especially as the baby in the family). We'd be up early, open the gifts presents, eat a big breakfast, visit the neighbours, eat a big lunch, visit more neighbours, and eat some not-quite-yet-cold turkey for supper.   After supper someone would come to visit and we'd very likely eat some more and look at the presents and all that.

Christmas 2008 is not looking like that. But it will still rock! This year it's one event after the next, from work to church to family and friends.  Then, after it's all done, we fly to Labrador City on New Year's Day to spend a couple days with more family (where it will be colder, I presume).

And I'm looking forward to all of it.  It's the people.

Christmas is the one time of year where everyone (us included) makes the extra effort to see family and friends, even on top of all their (our) other responsibilities.
That's what I most liked about Christmas as a kid, and it's what I'm looking forward to most this year.  I just wish I could eat like I could 30 years ago.

Merry Christmas!  Let the caffeine flow.
