And in the midst of the snowstorm, there was a fire at one of the homes I help to look after. It started in the dryer (even though the lint trap and dryer vent were both clear), and thanks to the quick action of the staff and the fairly elaborate fire suppression system on site, everyone 'got out safely' and the fire was 'put out' probably more quickly than it started.
Of course, to say the folks 'got out safely' is a mixed comment. They got out into the snow and had to drive to another site. So, everyone 'relocated safely' is probably a better way to phrase it.
And the fire being 'put out' quickly is an understatement - the home has an elaborate fire suppression system that emptied 900 or so gallons of water into the laundry room. Perhaps 'summarily quenched' is a better description -- the fire didn't stand a chance.
So last night, in the midst of the snow, people were on the move. The insurance contractors showed up to begin clean-up. I'm extremely grateful no one was hurt. Now we pray that they are able to get safely back into their home, and soon.
Perspective.
